The 67th edition of the Vuelta a España bike race visits Barcelona in 2012 and for the first time in 13 years.  The 9th stage from Andorra to Barcelona was won by Belgian rider Philippe Gilbert for the UCI ProTour team BMC Racing Team. Catalan rider Joaquim Rodríguez came in second and maintains his overall lead in the race ahead of Christopher Froome in second place overall and Alberto Contador in third place. The Vuelta a España is from 18th  August 2012 to 9th September 2012 and has 21 stages in total with top of the world's top riders. The 9th stage is on Sunday 26th August 2012 and is from Andorra to Barcelona. The 194km stage to Barcelona from Andorra passes through towns of Solsona, Cardona, Manresa, Sant Feliu de Llobregat to reach Barcelona where it ends at the Olympic Stadium on Montjuic on Sunday 26th August 2012.

The Estadi Olímpic Lluís Companys (previously called Estadi Olímpic de Montjuïc) is the Olympic Sorts Stadium in Barcelona, Spain. The location is on Montjuic hill which overlooks Barcelona from the south of the city. If you are arriving to Barcelona by air, then you will probably pass Montjuic mountain on your way to the center of Barcelona. The stadium was originally built in 1927 for the 1929 Barcelona World Exposition and was renovated in 1989 to function as the main stadium for the 1992 Summer Olympic games. The Olympic stadium is named after the former president of the Generalitat de Catalunya called Lluís Companys i Jover. Companys was executed at the nearby Montjuïc Castle in 1940 by the regime of the Spanish dictator Franco.

mtro   By Metro to station Espanya - then walk 15 minutes
Take the Metro to station Espanya by metro lines Red L1 or metro line Green Line 3. Then walk from the station Espanya up towards the MNAC art museum, which is the building that looks like a royal palace at the top of Av Reina Maria Christina above the Magic Fountain. The Estadi Olimpic is up on the hill behind and to the right of the MNAC palace. You can take outdoor escalators part of the way up the hill. From there just folllow the signs and the crowds. It is a around 15-20  minute walk from the Espanya metro station.
 

   By Metro to station Parallel - then take Funicular mountain train - walk 15minutes
Take the Metro to station Parallel on green L3. Then take Montjuic funicular train up Montjuic hill. With your back facing the funicular train station when you exit, turn right and walk along Av de Miramar down to the Palau Sant Jordi and Olympic Stadium. 15 min walk.


   By FCG train to station Pl. Espanya - then walk 15 minutes.
Nearest FCG train stop is Pl Espanya. Then walk from the station Espanya up to the arena on the Av Reina Maria Christina, past the Magic Fountain and then up the outdoor escalators that take you part of the way up the hill. From there just folllow the signs and the crowds. It is a 15 min walk.

Bus line 55
 to Olympic Stadium on Montjuic hill Barcelona.
Other buses to Olympic area Montjuic are 50 (from city center) and numbers: 92730 and 193 
Buses to Pl Espanya from various areas of town: 157 (from Vila Olimpica) 109 (from Sants Station) and 56 (from Pl Glories)
Sometimes for trade fairs and concert there might be special buses to Plaza Espanya.
