Sitges - seaside town 45km south of Barcelona - 45 mins by train > How to get to Sitges

Festa Major de Sitges 2013. La Fiesta Mayor de Sitges - called Festa Major i Santa Tecla 2013 -  is the biggest annual festival in Sitges which is a delightful seaside resort 30 minutes south of Barcelona. The festival takes its name from Sant Bartolomeu, patron saint of Sitges. The Festa Major de Sitges takes place in August every year and like other Catalan festa major celebrations, you can see many Catalan traditions including processions with gegants (giants) - capgrossos (big paper mache heads), correfocs (fireruns) - bastoners (stick dances) and a full programme of music and concerts and of course sardanes dancing and castellers groups who build impressive human towers. One of the highlights of the festival is a huge 15 to 20 minute fireworks display (castell de foc) on the beach in front of the church which in 2013 takes place on Friday 23rd August 2013 at 11pm.
