The Barcelona Earth Fair is called "la Fira per la Terra", or "La Fira de la Tierra." This is an annual two day eco-fair and market in connection with the international Earth Day on 22nd April every year. The Earth Fair was first held in Barcelona in 1996. Earth Day was held for the first time on 22 April 1970 in the United States and is now celebrated across the globe. La Fira per la Terra 2012 is in Parc de la Ciutadella and on the street Passeig Lluís Companys by the park on the weekend nearest to 22nd April, which is 21/4 and 22/4 in 2012. The focus is on the fight against climate change and showcases a wide range of environmentally friendly products both local, ecological and recycled that can be bought in the many stalls. In 2012 the focus of the fair is also on renewable energies and in particular wind power. The Fira per la Terra is great for kids and has many fun activities and workshops for families and children.
