Event address: > Plaça del Marquès de Foronda above the Magic Fountain in Barcelona at 20:00 "El Grito" in Barcelona" is celebrated on the evening of Saturday 15th September 2012. It is organised in Barcelona by el Consulado de México en Barcelona and in 2012 it takes place on Plaça del Marquès de Foronda which is above the Font Magica - Magic Fountain in Barcelona. After El Grito there will be festivities with a Mariachi concert and admission is free. "El Grito de Dolores" - (the cry for independence) is the central event of the Barcelona "Semana de Mexico" festivities. The Grito de Dolores was the battle cry of the Mexican War of Independence, uttered by Father Miguel Hidalgo on September 16, 1810 as the call for revolution against the authorities of México. On this day Mexicans all over the world celebrate México’s independence from Spanish rule. The following day, September 16th (Dieciséis de septiembre,) is the Mexican Independence Day and the most important non-religious holiday in Mexico. |
