Diada de les tradicions nadalencs

"19. Diada de les tradicions i costums nadalencs a Catalunya" on "Dia de Santa Llúcia." This is the "Day of the Christmas traditions & customs in Catalonia" which is a 1 day Christmas festival at the oldest and biggest Christmas market in Barcelona called La Fira de Santa Llúcia on "La avenida de la Catedral" in front of Barcelona's cathedral in the Gothic quarter. The Diada de Tradicions i Costums Nadalencs festival is from 10.30 and all day with highlights that include the "Tió Popular" which is the giant "Tió de Nadal" log whipping session for kids in which children hit a log (called a "tió" in Catalan) with sticks to get it to "poo" presents (read more about "Tio de Nadal" tradition.) Usually at 18.00 a giant carnaval figure called the "Carassa de Nadal de Barcelona," which means the "face of Christmas," parades through the Santa Llucia Christmas market with sweets coming out of his mouth for the children. The Carassa de Nadal is accompanied by the music of the "Pessigolla de la Plaça Nova" grallers pipe band. And usually at 18:15 the Sebastià Vergés theatre company tells Christmas stories. From 19:00 onwards usually more Christmas concerts and dances. Please note times can vary or change.

Avinguda de la Catedral is the square located in front of Barcelona cathedral in the gothic quarter of Barcelona. It is part of series of square that also comprises Plà de la Seu and extends into Plaça Nova. Avinguda de la Catedral is often used for markets including an antiques market, the Santa Lucia Christmas market and for other events in connections with annual festivals in Barcelona like the Santa Eulalia festival and La Merce Festival. There is usually sardanes dancing every Sunday around noon in front on the cathedral
