Tax Free Shopping Barcelona Spain

In Spain the sales tax or VAT is called IVA. The current Spanish sales tax is 21%. If you live outside the European Union, then you reclaim the sales tax paid on your shopping items.

Please note that the minimum purchase amount to reclaim sales tax for Spain is €90.16 which means that must have spent more than this amount to qualify for a tax refund.

This means that using Global Blue’s Tax Free Shopping services you can save up to 15.7% on some purchases when you spend €90.16 or more.

Shops in Barcelona that sell to tourists will often display a TAX FREE sticker on the door and in these shops, you can ask for your tax free cheques when you buy a product.

You can either get the VAT refund at the airport when you leave the EU or at the Barcelona tourist information office on central square Plaça de Catalunya.

If you choose to claim at the tourist office then please note that Tax free claims will only be paid in euros and only Global Blue Tax Free cheques are accepted.

You can also claim your VAT refund at the airport at the airport where you fly out of the European Union.

All airports including Barcelona airport have a tax-free office, where you can declare your Tax free purchases at customs, get your tax free cheques stamped and get your tax-free refund.

Please note that you only have three months from the date of purchase to get your tax free forms stamped when you leave the European Union zone.
