Els Quatre Gats
Famous for being Pablo Picasso's old hangout, Els Quatre Gats a piece of living history. The name means "The four cats" in Catalan (Los Cuatro Gatos in Spanish) and is a Spanish expression which means " a few insignificant people." Els Quatre Gats was a favorite meeting place for artists in the beginning of the 20th century the most famous being Pablo Ruiz Picasso when was living in Barcelona. This restaurant hosted his first exhibition and he designed the menu. The decoration of the restaurant is very original and located inside a modernist building constructed in 1897 by Puig y Cadafalch, who worked with the famous Catalan architect Antoni Gaudi. Els Quatre Gats is on a side street on the left off the pedestrian walking street Puerta del Angel just a short walk from Plaza de Cataluna. The food is good if a bit expensive which is too be expected in a venue that is also a popular tourist attraction. The typically spanish live music is not particulary authentic, but the design is and don't miss a visit to the toilets if only for the tilework!
