Los Caracoles (Casa Bofarull)
Los Caracoles Barcelona. Casa Bofarull Barcelona. Los Caracoles has been there for over a hundred years and has not changed much. You walk in through the kitchen and there are multiple levels with rooms off either side. No handicap access. Reviews tend to vary but it is a Barcelona landmark restaurant. Los Caracoles means 'the snails'. One could easily walk past the Los Caracoles in Barcelona without noticing it, except for the chickens roasting on a spit outside. Inside Los Caracoles is a labyrinth of rooms on various levels connected by small wooden staircases with snails carved into the handrails, echoing the restaurants name, ‘caracoles' (snails).

Each room has its own unique personality, with dark wood, stone and colourful tiles being regular features as are the signed photographs of celebrities past and present adorning the walls. The restaurant has a friendly atmosphere and an old world feel and as one might expect snails are also on the menu, and even the bread rolls are also snail-shaped.

The cuisine is Catalan and apart from the famous roast chicken and snails, other dishes include paellas, fish dishes and a variety of game such as rabbit. There are some tempting deserts on offer too, like crema catalana and ice-cream with turron. It's advisable to book ahead in peak season.
