How to get to Estadi Olímpic Barcelona - Lluís Companys - Estadio Olímpico - Olympic Stadium

The Estadi Olímpic Lluís Companys (previously called the Estadi Olímpic de Montjuïc) is the Olympic Sorts Stadium in Barcelona, Spain.

The location is on Montjuic mountain, which is the hill that overlooks Barcelona from the south of the city. If you are arriving to Barcelona by air then you will probably pass Montjuic mountain on your way to the center of Barcelona.

It was originally built in 1927 for the 1929 Barcelona World Exposition and was rebuilt in 1989 to be the main venue for the 1992 Summer Olympics.

The stadium is named after the former president of the Generalitat de Catalunya Lluís Companys i Jover. Companys was executed at the nearby Montjuïc Castle in 1940 by the dictator Franco's regime.

The stadium has a capacity of 55,926, and has been the home ground of Barcelona's other premier football team RCD Espanyol since 1998. RCD are moving to a new football ground in 2009

Getting to Estadi Olimpic on Montjuic Barcelona

   By Metro to station Espanya 

Take the Metro to Metro station Espanya by metro lines Red L1 or Green Line 3 or FCG trains, then walk from the metro station Espanya up to the stadium along the Av Reina Maria Christina, past the Magic Fountain and then up the outdoor escalators to take you part of the way up the hill. From there just folllow the signs and the crowds. It is a pleasant 20 walk.

  Take the Metro to station Parallel on green L3. Then take the Montjuic funicular train up the Montjuic hill. With your back facing Barcelona go right and follow the road Av de Miramar down to the Olympic Stadium. 10 min walk.

  By FCG train

Nearest FCG train stop: Pl Espanya. Then walk from the metro station Espanya up to the stadium along the Av Reina Maria Christina, past the Magic Fountain and then up the outdoor escalators to take you part of the way up the hill. From there just folllow the signs and the crowds. It is a 20 walk.
