The Palau Robert is a palace in Barcelona located on Passeig de Gracia. It is owned by Barcelona city and used as cultural exhibition centre with three exhibition halls, an auditorium and public gardens.
It also houses Catalan Information Centre and Catalona Tourist Information centre, including the city's tourism bureau.
History of Palau Robert
The Palau Robert in Barcelona on Passeig de Gracia used to be the private residence of Robert Robert i Surís. During the civil war period from 1936-1939 period it was the site of the Generalitat de Catalunya's Ministry of Culture. After the Spanish Civil War, Robert's family reclaimed the Palau Robert and in 1981 is was sold to the Catalonia Government - Generalitat de Catalunya in 1981 and since then it has been a public building.
The Palau Robert was built in 1903 with stone from Montgrí. The charming palm tree gardens were designed by Ramon Oliva, who also designed the present Plaza Catalunya.
