Palacio Guell (Palau Guell in Catalan) - Guell Palace - Barcelona. This was the home of Gaudí’s patron, Count Eusebi Güell.
At the end of the 19th century Gaudi designed, what was then and perhaps still is, the most spectacular and luxurious building in Barcelona and one of the first indications of the direction that Gaudí’s architectural style would develop.
Palau Guell was built with stone, coated with delicate marble and decorated with high quality wood. Its inauguration coincided with the 1888 World Fair Exhibition in Barcelona and it housed many social and official functions.
The building was a pleasant surprise for the citizens of Barcelona and earned the admiration of visitors because it was such a radical break with the style of other palatial constructions of Barcelona.
PLEASE NOTE THAT THE PALACIO GUELL IS CLOSED FOR RENOVATIONS!
