The information below is about the cable car on Montjuic mountain itself, which is called the Telefèric de Montjuïc.
It is a ski resort style 4 man gondola lift cable car, which transports visitors up the mountain to the old military fort on Montjuic. The cable car was renovated from 2004 to 2007.
To get there you can take the buses 50, 55, or 61. Visit www.tmb.net for bus information.
Or you can take funicular train, which starts from the metro station Parallel on Avinguda Paral·lel and ends opposite the Telefèric de Montjuïc cable-car station.
The journey takes 8 minutes to cover the 752 metres length with an elevation of 85.5 metres. There is room for 8 person in the new cars, which were installed in 2007 following renovation of the system since 2004. The new cars have better ventilation and give better views of the city.
There is a midway stop at the "Mirador del Alcalde" observation deck which has great views of the harbour.

I travelled on this cable car last week (May 2009) while visiting Barcelona with my husband. it was one of the scariest things I've ever done but so worthwhile for the fantastic views right over the city. it was nerve-wracking facing the trip down again but again the views were worth it. I won't be doing it again!
