The pools of Montjuic, Barcelona

There are two outdoor Olympic swimming pools on Montjuic mountain in Barcelona. And a sports club with an outdoor pool. Finding out which is which can be a little confusing. We have listed the information about each pool for you below.

Piscines Bernat Picornell - Outdoor swimming pools - OPEN TO PUBLIC

The Bernat Picornell swimming pools on the mountain of Montjuïc is the flagship of Barcelona’s pools. This gym and swimming centre was opened in 1970 for the European swimming championships and was remodelled and modernised for the Olympic Games in Barcelona in 1992.

This is probably one of the best swimming pools in the world, when it comes to the view. This is the fabulous outdoor Olympic swimming pool that designed by Antoni de Moragas and built in 1992 for the diving events of the Barcelona Olympics. It is open to the public in July and August. The last day in 2007 that it is open is 2nd September.

The Olympic swimming pool has a seating capacity of 4.100 spectators and the panoramic views of the city provide a unique backdrop for diving events, which is why this pool was chosen by Kylie Minogue for her video "Slow" in 2003.

Because the pool was designed as a competition pool and is not part of a sports centre as such there are no other facilities and the changing rooms are a bit run-down now so many years after the olympic games in Barcelona. There are no deckchairs for sunbathing, and no food on sale, so it it advisable to bring your own refreshments and a thick towel to lie on. But the pool itself and the views are unbeatable

Club Natació Montjuïc - Sports club on Montjuic with outdoor pool - MEMBERS ONLY

Club Natació Montjuïc is a members only sports club with fitness gym and outdoor swimming pool, which is covered in the winter. It has a fantastic location on Montjuic mountain. The membership fee for 2007 costs 160 membership fee and 48 euros a month. Club Natació Montjuïc is also the venue of the pitch and putt golf club and driving range, Golf Montjuic.
