Although "Catalunya en Miniatura" or Miniature Catalonia is the biggest miniature theme park in the world, and the only one in Spain, it is not a well known attraction despite being on the outskirts of Barcelona.

The Miniature Catalonia park is 30 minutes by car from Barcelona in
Torelles de Llobregat and maybe an hour by train, but it's well worth the trip. The park has an amazing collection of miniature models of buildings and landmarks both from Barcelona and Catalonia. From churchs to models of factories and ports. You can see the whole of Catalonia in one fun afternoon.

The Miniature Catalonia park itself is in a beautiful setting in the woods with lovely country views.

The park is a tiny bit rundown and there are no models of the newest Barcelona landmarks like the
Torre Agbar, and indeed the model of the Sagrada Familia is more unfinished than the real thing these days, which is fun to see.

This model took 13.000 hours of work by 6 model builders.

That is 4.4 years of normal work days. No wonder the real thing is taking a while!

The Casa Calvet by Gaudi. The real one is in the centre of Barcelona and has an excellent restaurant in the ground floor called
Restaurant Casa Calvet .

The Casa Bellesgaard by Gaudi.

The model of Casa Vicens is easier to appreciate than the real
Casa Vicens by Gaudi which is on the tiny street of Carolinas in Gracia. It was built as country retreat, but is now hemmed in on all sides by the streets and house of Gracia, Barcelona

The Catalunya en Miniature park also has a small train for rides around the park, and there is a small playground for the kids, a cafeteria and picnic area.
If you want to make a day of it , you could walk down the half kilometre to visit the village of Torrelles de Llobregat for lunch. Or have lunch at the restaurant Can Balasch de Baix (936890851) just outside the park.
Another idea is to visit
Gaudi's crypt at Colonia Guell on the way back, It is just 6 km from the Catalunya Miniature Park.
