Cooltra scooter rentals in Barcelona

Living the vida "Local!"

Cooltra Motos of Barcelona are passionate about two things in life; scooters - and scooters!

The name “Cooltra” comes from combining two words - cool and transport, while “Motos” is the Spanish word for scooters.

That’s how Barcelona’s first and biggest scooter rental company got its name, Cooltra Motos!

Like many great businesses Cooltra started with a passion, which was felt by the Cooltra founders themselves.

When they moved to Barcelona, they not only found themselves in one of the world’s most cosmopolitan and “happening” cities, but they also found themselves in the European city with the highest number of scooters.

Scooters are perfect for Barcelona!

They soon found out why! A scooter is the perfect way to get around the streets of Barcelona for many reasons.  It’s fun! It’s convenient! It’s quick! You have freedom to explore! It’s easy to park! A scooter really is cool transport!

Perhaps the best thing about buzzing around Barcelona on a scooter is the unique glimpse that you get into the local culture.

Cooltra tell their customers, that they will “Experience the city with the eyes of a local” and that is a very accurate claim.  There’s nothing quite like it.  When you steer your scooter into the Catalan traffic, you really feel that you are right in the bloodstream of this vibrant city.

There is something to see on every street and every corner. It could be an interesting person, a beautiful building, an amazing shop or an inviting café. You will see all this and more from the seat of a scooter in Barcelona.  Or the backseat. There’s room for two on a scooter!

So like many before them, the founders of Cooltra became passionate scooter drivers when they settled in Barcelona.

But there was one thing they didn’t understand? Why were there no scooter rental companies? When their friends came to visit, they wanted to rent a scooter and show their friends the city. But that wasn’t possible. Why not?

They concluded (correctly as it turns out) that if they loved exploring Barcelona from a scooter seat and wanted to rent scooters, then others would love it too.

First and best!

So Cooltra was born in May of 2006 with the goal of not only being the first, but the best.

When Cooltra opened its doors, it was what the founders called, “a small operation of just 60 scooters.” Today,  just one year later, Cooltra has more than 300 scooters in Barcelona and Valencia offering scooter rentals, scooter city tours, scooter training courses, scooters for corporate events, scooter sales and more.

Being first is one thing. Being best takes hard work and constant innovation. Cooltra are constantly trying to find new and fun ways to use scooters. That’s why Cooltra was the first company in the world to offer scooter city tours for tourists.

The driving force!

The “driving” force of Cooltra is dynamic German Timo Buetefisch, who loves scooters, Barcelona and Cooltra in equal measure.

He is as passionate about his business as he is about scooters and Barcelona, which is why he is putting his considerable business skills behind Cooltra to make sure as many visitors to Barcelona as possible got the chance to feel the Barcelona breeze in their face and see the city at affordable rates.

Timo and his team make sure that Cooltra stay loyal to their claim that you will “move like a local” in Barcelona.  They want to make sure that a Cooltra scooter rental is a memorable experience that will bring back customers again and again.

They also recognize the importance of quality and safety. Traffic in Barcelona can be a bit challenging, so renting scooters from Cooltra in Barcelona and other cities must be a safe and fun experience.

Every rental scooter is double checked before leaving the Cooltra Shop. Inexperienced drivers are evaluated before being allowed to rent a scooter and Cooltra has also launched “Cooltra Pilot”, a scooter training course for first-time scooter riders in Barcelona.

Launch of “Barcelona-Scooter” guided tours

The passion, hard work, attention to detail and commitment to quality of the Cooltra team is beginning to show remarkable results.

In the beginning of 2007 Cooltra signed an official cooperation agreement with Barcelona Turisme, the tourism office of Barcelona, to launch “Barcelona-Scooter”.

Through this new service tourists will be able to hire “The Official Scooter Tour of Barcelona” provided by Cooltra, directly from the Barcelona Tourism Office.

Barcelona Scooter provides a guided panoramic tour of the city’s main tourist landmarks, on automatic 125 cc scooters, escorted by a guide who talks about the history of the sights on the route.

This is the first and only official scooter rental service for visitors to Barcelona, so this deal was a milestone for Cooltra.

So who rents Cooltra scooters?

All kinds of people rent scooters in Barcelona. The 300 plus Cooltra scooters can often be seen on the roads with happy customers of all ages and nationalities behind the handlebars.

Some are tourists visiting Barcelona, who are looking for a fun, affordable and independent way to explore Barcelona. Others are residents of Barcelona, who want to rent a scooter for a day or two for themselves or friends. Cooltra scooters are also rented by people living in Barcelona, who are thinking about buying a scooter, but want to try it first for a couple of days.

There are many reasons why people visit Cooltra. To handle this explosive growth Cooltra has hired more than 22 international members of staff for their Cooltra shops in Barcelona and Valencia.

With opening dates already set for new Cooltra shops in Sevilla, Madrid and Zaragoza before the end of 2007, Cooltra is set to take the whole continent by storm in 2008 with the launch of its shops in Italy, France and Portugal.

By 2009, the plan is that there will be over 30 Cooltra shops across the whole European continent
.
