El Festival de Barcelona Grec started in June 2009 and finishes at the end of August 2009. El Grec is Barcelona's largest dance, theatre and music festival with a series of wonderful concerts and events in many venues in the city throughout the summer. The Summercase music festival was cancelled this year, but hopefully it will be back next year. In the meantime the summer of 2009 in Barcelona welcomes big names like Metallica at the new Sonisphere Festival.

La Pedrera at Night - La Pedrera de Nit were weekly summer Jazz concerts on the roof of Casa Mila in July, but this event has been cancelled in 2009 and replaced with a equally exciting culinary experience called"Nits de cuina a La Pedrera ."

Sala Montjuic is a great summer open air cinema event in Bcn. Three times a week you can see open air big screen original version classic movies at the Montjuic Castle on Montjuic hill. Many Sala Montjuic fans bring a picnic to eat while enjoying the movies and live jazz concerts before each film. The Sala Montjuic movies are V.O. which means Version Original - original language audio with Spanish subtitles.
If you want shorter movies, but still big screen and open air, then try MECAL AIR which is a new outdoor weekly summer event at Poble Espanyol in Barcelona showing short films with a sushi sushi.
