Pictures Barcelona Hotel W - La Vela
Since 2009 a new gigantic glass sail can be seen on
the shores of Barcelona. The official name is Hotel W, but here in Bcn is already best known by its local
nickname, "La Vela." Designed by Catalan architect Ricardo Bofill it has become Barcelona's newest landmark hotel of 26
floors and 476 rooms with superb views of the sea and coastline. All
interiors come with contemporary design and smart bathrooms featuring
rainfall showers.
Aerial view of Hotel W Barcelona. The location is perfect at the southern tip of Barceloneta beach at the end of the new extended Barceloneta boardwalk.
From the very sleek and stylish pool area you have lovely stretching view of the sunsets and sunrises over the beaches and the city.
The Barceloneta boardwalk gives skaters a new playground.
Enjoy cocktails at Eclipse, the
26th-floor rooftop bar, the dine at restarant Wave or the restaurant managed by Michelin-Star winner and acclaimed Catalan chef, Carles Abellan called Bravo 24. For relaxation you have the beach in the summer, the pool deck or book a session in spa Bliss or the hotel fitness centre.
This striking tilted sculpture on Barceloneta beach is a homage to the neighbourhood of Barceloneta and called "L'Estel ferit" in Catalan, which means "The Wounded Star" in English. The name in Spanish is "El lucero herido." It was created by German artist Rebecca Horn for the 1992 Olympic Games in Barcelona and is lit up from inside at night.
Some expensive commissioned artwork outside the hotel
Less expensive and uncommissioned artwork nearby. The cement breakwater could
be nicer and at least the graffitti adds some colour!
