The latest addition to the Barcelona skyline is the Torre Agbar , the Agbar Tower, which symbolises a water geyser.

not open to the public

Torre Agbar was built in 2004 and is 144 m / 474 ft high. It was designed by French architect
Jean Nouvel, who also designed the nearby central park of Poblenou.

The tower has 33 floors of offices and is called Agbar Tower, because it was built to consolidate the offices of the water company Agbar, who used to have many offices in a number of different buildings in Barcelona.

The design symbolises a water geyser. It has also become a symbol of the change in the old industrial area of Poble Nou previously known as the "Manchester" of Catalonia.

Grupo Agbar, a water resource company, occupies the entire top half of the tower, so they are the people to get a meeting with, if you want to enjoy the views of the Mediterranean through one of the 4.400 windows, because sadly there is
no public viewing deck and the building itself is
not open to the general public.

But it is worth seeing if only from outside. Especially when it is illuminated in a dazzling array of 4,500 yellow, blue, pink and red lights on the outside.
Normally the illuminations are static, but on special occasions, such as New Year's Eve, a spectacle of light and colour can also be shown using the advanced light show system.

The Agbar tower in Barcelona is lit up on
Friday, Saturdays and Sunday only. From 21.00 to 23.00 in the winter and times vary in the summer due to changing sunset times. To get to the Torre Agbar take the red line number 5 to Metro Station Glories. It's about 7 minutes from the centre of Barcelona and Plaza Catalunya and the shopping centre
Les Glories is just across from the tower.

One wonders what
Christopher Columbus would have made of his new
Barcelona skyline neighbour? Maybe he would be pointing in a different direction?
