Top 10 attractions in Barcelona
La Sagrada Familia - the unfinished church by Gaudi.

Top ten - Sagrada Familia Barcelona

The official name of La Sagrada Familia church is "Templo Expiatorio de la Sagrada Familia." This is by far the most popular tourist attraction in Barcelona and the only cathedral in the world still under construction. Construction is expected to be finished in 2025. The first stone was laid back in 1882. This incredible structure was designed by architect Antoni Gaudi. He died in 1926, when only a quite small part of his creation had been built. When construction started in 1882, the Sagrada Familia was surrounded mostly by fields. "The famous author George Orwell called la Sagrada Familia “the ugliest building on earth!” Whether you love it or hate it, it is a spectacular and audacious structure, and worth seeing. The construction is and always has been completely financed by private donations and visitor admission fees.

Top 10 attractions in Barcelona
The Picasso Museum on Carrer de Montcada.

The Ruiz-Picassos, Pablo Picasso’s family, lived in Barcelona from 1895 to 1904 having moved to Barcelona permanently from Malaga, where Pablo Picasso was born. Picasso's father was an art teacher and Pablo Picasso had already started his art studies in Malaga, but Barcelona had a huge influence on his early years as a struggling painter and it was in Barcelona that Picasso first exhibited his work. The Picasso museum in Barcelona does not have any of his most famous paintings, but exhibits many sketches and lesser known works, that are a thrill to see.  The museum is housed in several fabulous gothic mansions in the old part of Barcelona called El Born.  Definately a top attraction in Barcelona. A good tip is to get there early during weekends. Visit the Barcelona museum website for more information on exhibits and Picasso.

La Rambla starts at Plaza Catalunya and ends at the Monument of Columbus at the Port Vell harbour of Barcelona. La Rambla it is not a spectacular sight, but fun to walk down and enjoy the human heartbeat of Barcelona. If you have not strolled down it, you cannot say you have been in Barcelona.
