Fundació Joan Miró - Joan Miro Foundation. The Miro museum in Barcelona is located on the Avinguda de Miramar on the Montjuïc hill. Joan Miro was a Catalan painter, sculptor and ceramist born in Barcelona, Spain. This museum is worth a visit just for the architectural design of the building and the lovely city views. It houses the largest collection in the world of Miró's work including paintings, drawings, sculptures, and tapestries as well as his complete graphic work. Another popular exhibit is the Alexander Calder Mercury fountain of mercury instead of water from from the Spanish Pavilion at the 1937 World Fair in Paris as a tribute to Spanish town Almadén which supplied over half of the world's mercury at the time. The fountain was commissioned to commerate the siege of the town by the dictator Franco's troops. The fountain is now displayed in a container as it is now known that mercury is highly toxic. Other Miro works around the city of Barcelona are the "Woman and Bird" sculpture in the Parc de Joan Miro near Plaza Espanya. If you land at the older T2 terminal of Barcelona airport there is a enormous mural by Miro and if you are on La Rambla look for for 1976 pavement mosaic on "Pla de l'Os" and near to the birthplace of Miro on the street "Passatge del Crèdit"

2014. From the 9th of May to the 2nd of November 2014 , the Joan Miró Foundation hosts an exhibition called "De Miró a Barcelona" - "From Miró to Barcelona" which is a collection of drawings, sketches, models, photographs and videos that allow the visitor to contextualise the works of Miró that are on display Barcelona’s public spaces.
