Bicing.com is Barcelona's public bicycle borrowing scheme for permanent residents. Register online to get a membership card, which allows you to borrow bicing bicycles from 30 minutes to 2 hours. The cost is 30 euros a year (2009 prices) for an annual subscription. Visitors to Barcelona cannot use the bicing system.

The idea is simple. You pick up your bici at a bicing pickup/drop off location. Then you have 30 minutes to get to the pickup/drop off location near your destination. If you exceed the first 30 minutes then there is an additional and automatic charge to your account of 50 cents for every extra 30 minutes. The maximum time you can use the same bici is 2 hours.
