2017 will be the 12th time that Barcelona hosts the GSMA MWC Mobile World Congress. Last years edition welcomed around 100,000 trade visitors, over 374 keynote speakers, 2200 exhibitors and visitors from 204 different nations in nine halls and outdoor spaces at both Fira Gran Via and Fira Montjuïc and awarded Over Glomos annual Global Mobile Awards to 40 amazing products, services, devices, apps and technologies. Thousands of mobile entrepreneurs and start-ups attended the 4 Years From Now (4YFN) event at Fira Montjuïc.
Despite challenging economic times the world of mobile communication and smart phones is still a masssive growth industry and Barcelona is the beating heart of the mobile industry as host of the the most important event of the year. MWC has confirmed that it will stay in Barcelona until the year 2023. For Barcelona the economic benefits for the city are estimated at over 400 million euros and 10,000 temporary jobs during the three day event.

The location of the 2017 MWC is the exhibition centre Fira Gran Via. The Fira Gran Via is located just outside Barcelona city centre between Barcelona airport and city centre. It is next to the Gran Via 2 shopping mall and an IKEA store. New metro Barcelona airport to MWC
For MWC 2016 there is a new Barcelona Metro Line 9, which connects Barcelona airport terminals 1 and 2 to the station Fira by the Fira Gran Via and MWC17. From Fira Gran Via metro stop the new metro line then connects with outer parts of the Barcelona metro network. The new L9 metro line is a not a conventional high-speed direct metro line connecting Barcelona airport to the Barcelona city centre, like many other European cities have, but it is very convenient for business visitors at Fira Gran Via to get to and from Barcelona airport.

The Fira Gran Via exhibition centre is excellent, but apart from shopping malls and an IKEA, there are few attractions in this commercial area, so many MWC visitors will probably prefer to find accommodation in central Barcelona. There are a number of new and modern hotels and aparthotels close to the Gran Via exhibition centre which you can find on the links below. But the Gran Via exhibition centre is quite close to the city centre by train or taxi, so you can also choose hotels in the centre of Barcelona. If you plan to go by public transport to the Gran Via exhibition area, but prefer to stay in Barcelona city centre, then you might want to consider booking hotels close to the street Gran Via in Barcelona. If you are close to the Gran Via street, then you can take the L1 red metro line to Plaza Espanya and from the Plaza Espanya metro station you change on the same ticket to the FGC train to get to the FGC station Europa Fira which is the closest to the Gran Via exhibition area.

How to get to Fira Gran Via Exhibition Centre Barcelona
Where is the Fira Gran Via trade show exhibition centre Barcelona? The Fira Gran Via exhibition centre is located in the Hospitalet de Llobregat area of Barcelona, which is just outside the city centre on the south side of Montjuic hill about half-way between Barcelona airport and the Barcelona city centre. Fira Gran Via exhibition area and convention centre is located just outside the Barcelona city centre in the Hospitalet de Llobregat suburb of Barcelona which is about 7 km from Barcelona central Plaza Catalunya square and about 4km from Barcelona's other big exhibition area called Fira Montjuic. Both the Fira Gran Via and the Fira Montjuic are owned by Fira de Barcelona, who organise many of Barcelona biggest trade fairs and exhibitions. The Fira Gran Via area also has a convention and congress centre called the "Centre de Convencions Gran Via."
The Fira Gran Via trade fair buildings were designed by Japanese architect Toyo Ito and are one of the most modern exhibition areas in Europe. The Fira Gran Via site has 240,000 square metres of exhibition space in 8 pavilions, a heliport with two helipads and one of the biggest roof photovoltaic plants in the world. Some of the biggest trade shows in Barcelona take place at the Fira Gran Via including the Barcelona International Food and Drinks Exhibition "Alimentaria" and the MWC Mobile World Congress and many more.
