Museo del Calçat - Shoe Museum
Museo del Calçat - Barcelona Shoe Museum. This is one of Barcelona's small and hidden museums, but nevertheless quite charming and interesting see. It is located on lovely Plaza de Sant Felip Neri, which is an equally small, but very tranquil plaza in the Gothic quarter. The shoe museum itself is a large room with showcases housing a selection of footwear spanning 2000 years. The museums is run by the "La Confraria de Sant Marc Evangelista de Mestres Sabaters" the St. Mark brotherhood of Master Shoemakers, which is from the thirteenth century making it one of the oldest shoemaker associations in the world and the oldest official institution in Barcelona. The earliest reference is in 1202 even before the the city council "Consell de Cent" was established.
