AVE high-speed trains started operating between Barcelona and Madrid in February 2008 providing a convenient transport link between the two biggest cities in Spain.

From 2013 the high-speed AVE train connection also connects Barcelona to the towns of Figueres and Girona in Spain and to Paris in France. At the moment all AVE trains leave Barcelona from
Sants railway station and the new AVE station in Barcelona "Estació de la Sagrera."

AVE trains are operated by Renfe, which is the Spanish railway company that operates inter-city trains all over Spain. In Barcelona you can buy tickets until 5 minutes before departure if there is room. Please note you can only buy AVE tickets at the AVE station in Barcelona, or you can buy AVE train tickets online. 20kg of luggage is included in the price.
