RCD Espanyol was founded in 1900 and was the first Spanish football team to be founded entirely by Spanish football fans unlike the earlier Spanish football teams which were formed by a mixture of foreign expats living in Spain. The original name of the RCD Espanyol was 'Sociedad Espanola de Futbol.' The first club strip were bright yellow shirts, which inspired the nickname that stands to this day, 'Los Periquitos' - The Parakeets. In 1910 the club was renamed Club Deportivo Espanol and changed the strip to the present day blue and white stripes inspired by the coat of arms of the Catalan admiral, Roger de Lluria. Visit RCD Espanyol website for details of matches and club news.
