The stadium is on Montjuic hill which overlooks Barcelona from the south of the city. If you are arriving to Barcelona by air, then you will probably pass Montjuic mountain on your way to the center of Barcelona. The stadium was originally built in 1927 for the 1929 Barcelona World Exposition and was renovated in 1989 to be the stadium for the 1992 Summer Olympic games.
