The 66th edition of the International Music Competition Maria Canals in Barcelona, Spain has been moved from March to July 2020 The Maria Canals music competition features over 100 free performances and 500 hours of grand piano music in Barcelona. The competition was founded in 1954 by pianist Maria Canals and her husband, writer Rossend Llates. Maria Canals i Cendrós attended all the competitions until her death in July 2010 at the grand old age of 96. The Maria Canals International Music Competition is attended by over 80 participants from over 25 different countries. The event is primarily at the Palau de la Música concert hall in Barcelona. More than 100 families in Barcelona graciously lend their pianos to contestants during the competition. The competition consists of qualifying rounds at the Petit Palau, semi-finals and the final on the 22nd March 2018 in the Palau de la Música concert hall. For the general public there is a series of "OFF Maria Canals" recitals and concerts in Barcelona.
