Yes, in our opinion (we are local residents of Barcelona) Spain is one of the safest European countries to visit in terms of crime and general safety.

In general has little serious crime with violence and is well policed.

A visitor to Spain should know that there is a considerable amount of pickpocket crime in big cities like Madrid, Barcelona, Seville, Valencia but mostly in crowded places that are frequented by tourists and in the metro.
