Severus of Barcelona, also known as Saint Severus, was a Christian bishop who lived in the 4th century AD. He is revered as a saint in the Catholic Church, and his feast day is celebrated on November 8.

According to tradition, Severus was born in the city of Zaragoza, Spain, and later became a bishop in the nearby city of Barcelona. He is said to have been a disciple of Saint Paulinus of Tarragona, and to have worked closely with him to spread the Christian faith throughout the region.

Severus is perhaps best known for his defense of the Nicene Creed, which was a statement of faith that had been established by the First Council of Nicaea in 325 AD. The creed affirmed the orthodox Christian belief in the Holy Trinity and the divinity of Jesus Christ, and Severus was a vocal defender of these teachings against the heretical Arianism, which denied the divinity of Christ.

Severus died in Barcelona around the year 406 AD. The details of Saint Severus of Barcelona's death are not entirely clear, and there are different accounts of how he died. However, it is generally believed that he died peacefully in Barcelona around the year 406 AD.

According to some traditions, including the legend of Saint Medir, Severus may have been martyred for his faith during the persecutions of the Roman Emperor Diocletian, which took place in the early 4th century. However, there is little historical evidence to support this theory.

Another tradition suggests that Severus may have died of natural causes, and that his death was marked by miraculous events, including the healing of the sick and the appearance of a bright light over his tomb.

His relics are said to be enshrined in the cathedral of Barcelona. His feast day is celebrated on November 8, and he is venerated as a saint in the Catholic Church and is often depicted in art holding a model of the city of Barcelona.
