Catalunya Federation of Sardanes
Federació Sardanista de Catalunya. La sardana is Catalonia's traditional folk dance which is danced in a circle with dancers holding hands. The music is usually performed by an cobla band consisting of wind instruments. You can see public sardanes dancing called "sardanes populars" on Sundays in front of the Barcelona cathedral from 12:00 to 14:00 or visit the Catalunya Sardanas Federation website to see other sardanes displays. During the annual Merce Festival in Barcelona in late September there is a big Sardanes competition and many displays.
