The winner of the America's Cup becomes the defender and is responsible for organizing the next edition of the competition.

The Prada Cup serves as the selection series for the challenger who will go on to compete against the current holder of the America's Cup. The Prada Cup is named after its sponsor, the Italian fashion brand Prada, and is also known as the Challenger Selection Series.

The format of the Prada Cup can vary depending on the edition, but it typically involves multiple challenger teams competing in a series of races.

The team that performs the best in the Prada Cup earns the right to challenge the defender in the America's Cup match. The America's Cup is known for its high-tech and high-performance sailing yachts, and the competition attracts top sailors and designers from around the world.

The Prada Cup adds an additional layer of excitement to the overall event by determining which challenger will have the opportunity to compete for the prestigious America's Cup. 

There are three Preliminary Regattas that precede the final races: the first two will take place in 2023 on board the AC40s (Vilanova i la Geltrú, Spain, from September 14 to 17 2023 and  Jeddah, Saudi Arabia from November 29 to December 2 2023). The third Prada Cup race is in Barcelona in August 2024 in Barcelona with the AC75 monohulls. 

The next America's Cup in 2024 takes place in Barcelona.
