La Asunción. L'Assumpció. Assumption day Spain. Spanish public holiday to celebrate the Assumption of the Virgin Mary. Catholics celebrate the feast of the Assumption of the Virgin Mary every year on August 15th to mark the assumption of Mary into Heaven which is, in the Catholic Church, Eastern and Oriental Orthodoxy, , the bodily taking up to heaven of the Virgin Mary at the end of her life on earth. This is considered the biggest feast day of the Virgin Mother but there are no major celebrations of the Feast of the Assumption in Barcelona.

Are shops open? 

Almost all shops in Barcelona are closed on public holidays, except convenience stores,  Maremagnum shopping mall in Barcelona Port Vell marina - and La Roca Outlet Village outside Barcelona. For food stores the small SuperCor shops are always open and have many shops in central Barcelona locations. In the center of Barcelona restaurants and tourist shops open on public and tours. Tourist attractions and museums operate normally.
