High Diving Barcelona 2013 - World Championships

15th FINA World Championships in Barcelona, Spain

High Diving Barcelona 2013. Very exciting cliff diving/high diving event in Barcelona for the first time. The High Diving Barcelona is three days of world championship diving from 27m (men) and 20m (women) platforms during the 15th Fina Barcelona 2013 World Championships, which takes place in Barcelona Spain in July 2013.  20 high divers from 8 countries climb 120 steps to the top of a 27 metre platform on the Moll de la Fusta in Barcelona's marina Port Vell, The platform is equivalent to a 9 story building and the divers hit the water at 90kmh feet first.

The field includes top 5 divers from the 2012 Red Bull World Series, 7 divers who qualified at the cliff diving event in Sydney in January 2013 and two wild cards. A 27 meter high diving platform will be erected by the Moll de la Fusta, by the open water swimming events area. The male divers are Garry Hunt (Great Britain) Orlando Duque (Colombia) Steve LoBue (USA) Artem Silchenko (Russia) David Colturi (USA) Jonathan Paredes (Mexico) Michael Navratil (Czech Republic) Blake Aldridge (Great Britain) Anatoly Shabotenko (Ukraine) Matt Cowen (Great Britain) Cyrille Oumedjkane (France) Jorge Ferzuli (Mexico) Kent Du Mond (USA) and Hassan Mouti (France.) The high divers will particpate in a two-day competition format with two dives in the qualification round (one freestyle) and three more dives in the final. The women high diving will be from a 20m platform.

The FINA World Championships or "World Aquatics Championships" are the World Championships for the aquatic sports of diving, swimming, open water swimming, synchronized swimming and water polo. During this event Barcelona will welcome thousands of swimmers and spectators from around the globet to stage best World Championships in history in Barcelona. Barcelona also hosts the Planet Water event. Events take place at Palau Sant Jordi arena for swimming and synchronised swimming - the Bernat Picornell City Sports Center Pools (Centre Esportiu Municipal Bernat Picornell) who host the waterpolo events - springboard diving will be at Montjuïc Municipal Pool (Piscina Municipal de Montjuïc) and  high diving and open water long distance swimming events of 5k, 10k and 25k are in the Port Vell harbour at the Moll de la Fusta (wood wharf) The official championship website is called BCN2013. The official mascot of Barcelona 2013 is a drop of water called Xop.

Hotels near High Diving and World Swimming Championships 2013 Barcelona. The main competition pools are on the Montjuic, where there is a five star Hotel Miramar. There are more hotels near Plaza Espanya which is within walking distance of the competition pools and has regular bus connections.

How to get to Moll de la Fusta


Moll de Bosch i Alsina, more popularly known as Moll de la Fusta. Moll de la Fusta (wood wharf) in Barcelona's Port Vell (old port) harbour and the former Roman port of Barcino. Moll de la Fusta runs parallel with street 'Passeig de Colom.' The maritime museum schooner Santa Eulalia is moored here and is open to the public. This wharf is very nice for harbour walks and often used for events and fairs such as the annual Barcelona Wine & Cava Fair and the 3 Kings parade on 5th January.  The Moll de la Fusta is on the border of Barcelona's gothic area  and the Barceloneta area of old city.



Attractions near Moll de la Fusta include Port Vell marina,  MMB Maritime Museum,  Merce church,  Barcelona Aquarium, the Maremagnum shopping mall, the Columbus monument, Golondrinas harbour boats and other boat tours, the Catalunya History Museum and the Gothic area of Barcelona
