Information:
Welcome to the 37th America’s Cup in Barcelona from August to October 2024 from Barcelona's Port Vell marina and out along the coastline to Port Olympic in what promises to be one of the most intense America’s Cups in the event’s 174-year history.

The competition will take place just off the areas between the Port Olímpic and the Hotel Vela, just 200 metres off the coastline. The Moll de la Fusta pier in the Ciutat Vella hosts the America's Cup village. The entire period from the first to the last race lasts 14 weeks.

History:
The America's Cup is the oldest international trophy in the world of sailing and is considered the most prestigious prize in yacht racing. The competition is a series of yacht races between two sailing yachts, one representing the defending yacht club (the current holder of the America's Cup) and the other representing a challenging yacht club. The America's Cup was first held in 1851 around the Isle of Wight, England, and was won by the American yacht "America." The trophy was named after this yacht and has since been awarded to the winner of the biennial America's Cup match. The New York Yacht Club, one of the most prestigious clubs in the world, held the trophy for 132 years before losing it in 1983 to Australia. Since then, the Cup has only been won by teams from the United States, Switzerland and New Zealand. The current Defender of the America's Cup is Emirates Team New Zealand, representing the Royal New Zealand Yacht Squadron.

The competition has gone through many changes over the years, but it has always been a showcase of cutting-edge sailing technology and tactics. In recent decades, the America's Cup has been dominated by high-tech catamarans and trimarans that can reach speeds of over 50 knots (93 km/h or 58 mph). The America's Cup has also become a major sporting event with significant media coverage and sponsorship. It attracts the best sailors and sailing teams from around the world, making it one of the most challenging and prestigious trophies to win in the sport of sailing.

The America's Cup is often referred to as the "Auld Mug". This nickname dates back to the early days of the competition, when the trophy itself was a silver ewer known as the Royal Yacht Squadron Cup. The trophy was later renamed the America's Cup after the winning yacht in the first competition in 1851, but the nickname "Auld Mug" has stuck and is still commonly used today.

How to get to Moll de la Fusta

Moll de Bosch i Alsina, is more popularly known as Moll de la Fusta, is in Barcelona's Port Vell (old port) harbour. Fusta means "wood" in the Catalan language and no prizes for guessing that the Moll de la Fusta got its name from the warehouses that stowed wood.

The Moll de la Fusta runs parallel with the street 'Passeig de Colom.' The maritime museum schooner Santa Eulalia is moored here and open to the public. This wharf is very popular for harbour walks and often used for events and fairs. The Moll de la Fusta is on the border of Barcelona's gothic area  and the Barceloneta area of old city.

Attractions near Moll de la Fusta include Port Vell marina,  MMB Maritime Museum,  Basilica of Our Lady of Mercy,  Barcelona Aquarium, the Maremagnum shopping mall, the Columbus monument, the Golondrinas harbour boats, the Catalunya History Museum and the Gothic area of Barcelona
