El Parc de Collserola. World's biggest metropolitan park

El Parc de Collserola Barcelona

El Parc de Collserola in Barcelona is the world's biggest Metropolitan park. Collserola park behind Tibidabo hill is in the Barcelona metropolitan area and easy to reach by train. Collserola is also the world's biggest metropolitan park.

There are many small city parks and gardens in Barcelona.  But for a real forest with many hiking trails, then head to Collserola park which is very close to Barcelona's city center.

Collserola park is located just behind Tibidabo hill only 20 minutes by train from Plaza Catalunya and the Barcelona city center.

Collserola park is 8000 hectares of unspoilt nature just 20 minutes from the centre of Barcelona, Spain. The reason that it is the largest metropolitan park in the world is because 50 % of the population of Catalonia lives less than ten kilometres away from it. And it's size makes Collserola Park 8 times larger than the Bois de Boulogne in Paris, and 22 times larger than Central Park in New York.

At the end of 2009 Collserola became an official natural park of Spain and changed name to "Parc Natural de la Serra Collserola". It also expanded to a total size of 8320 h. Collserola is an ocean of green close to one of the most densely populated urban areas on the Mediterranean coastline. There are walking trails, biking trails, farm house restaurants and many things to do apart from enjoying the fresh country air!
