Funicular de Tibidabo - Cuca de Llum - train to Tibidabo funfair. The funicular Tibidabo hill train was the first of its kind in Barcelona and Spain. The train was built to take passengers to the top of Tibidabo hill and
Tibidado fairground park. It is currently being renovated.
The Tibidabo train was designed by the engineer Bonaventura Roig and was officially opened on the 29th October 1901 at the same time as the opening of the street Avenida Tibidabo avenue and the
Tramvia Blau blue tram that connected to the funicular on Plaça del Doctor Andreu.
The plaza is named after
Dr Salvador Andreu i Grau, a succesful industrial pharmacist, who had the idea to build the funicular railway to Tibidabo's top to transport visitors to the fairground which he owned.
Doctor Andreu was the first passenger on the funicular train and took the first journey alone on 3rd July 1901.
The funicular train to Tibidabo base station starts at the 'Plaça del Doctor Andreu' at the top end of Avinguda Tibidabo. The vintage blue tram
Tramvia Blau that went to the base station of the Funicular de Tibidabo is also out of service. There will be a replacement bus service to take visitors to the
Tibidabo theme park, and the
Sagrat Cor church where one can enjoy magnificent views of Barcelona city, its coastline and the valleys beyond the city.
