CBSA. Barcelona cemetery route and visits. Cementiris de Barcelona organise the 'Cemeteries Route' which offers guided visits of Barcelona's two monumental cemeteries which are the
Cementiri de Poblenou in the Poblenou area of Barcelona and the
Cementiri de Montjuïc on Montjuic hill.
The route aims to represent these sites not as places of death but of life; cemeteries offer a summary of Barcelona's recent history.
The Barcelona cemetery route is organised into different thematic routes which cover historic and artistic aspects, as well as revealing the rich anecdotes conserved within these sites.
The artistic Montjuic cemetery tour includes 40 graves and tombs, including mausoleums and sculptures of different styles: Modernista, neo-Egyptian, realist, neo-gothic, and more.
Another tour is of the 48 graves and tombs belonging to important figures in Barcelona at the end of the 19th century to the early 20th century including the graves of Buenaventura Durruti, Francisco Ascaso, Francesc Cambó, Lluís Companys, Francesc Macià, Isaac Albèniz and Santiago Rusiñol.
The third Montjuic cemetery tour route visits 37 prominent graves and tombs and combines artistic and historic interest.
The cemetery tour is free (in Spanish and Catalan language only) and is available on the second and fourth Sunday of every month at 11:00.
The tours starts from Carrer de la Mare de Déu de Port, 56. (see map link). Please check before booking.
