Barcelona AVE train tickets. High speed AVE trains from Barcelona to Madrid, Paris, Girona and Figueres and more cities. AVE trains are operated by Renfe, which is the Spanish railway company that operates inter-city trains all over Spain. AVE means 'Alta Velocidad Española' which translates as 'Spanish High Speed' and the word AVE also means 'bird' in Spanish language. AVE trains leave Barcelona from Sants railway station.Please note you can only buy AVE tickets at the AVE stations in Barcelona, or buy AVE tickets online. 20kg of luggage is included in the AVE ticket price. In Barcelona you can buy tickets until 5 minutes before departure, if there are places. but remember to allow 30 minutes before departure just in case there is a line at the security baggage scan.

Barcelona-Madrid: 2 hours 30 minutes
Barcelona-Girona: 37 minutes
Barcelona-Figueres: 53 minutes.

AVE high-speed trains started operating between Barcelona and Madrid in 2008 to provide a convenient transport link between the two biggest cities in Spain. From 2013 the high-speed AVE train also connected Barcelona to the towns of Figueres and Gerona in Spain and to Paris in France.
